Welcome back to My Kitchen! My Rules! Holiday Series

Peanut Butter Cookies are SO incredibly delicious, even though they are SO simple to make! You can’t go wrong with THREE INGREDIENT RECIPES!

TIP: Take the same recipe to create Peanut Butter Blossoms!

Soft peanut butter cookie dough rolled in sugar, cooked and topped in center with a Hershey’s Kisses chocolate, transform the cookie in a BLOSSOM with all that milk chocolate!  Thanks to Ms. Freda Strasel Smith!

To celebrate peanut butter, here are some fun facts, secrets and thoughts to ponder:

A.  Who is said to have created the Peanut Butter Cookie?

Marcellus Gilmore Edson was born at Bedford in Québec. Edson developed the idea of peanut paste as a delicious and nutritious foodstuff for people who could hardly chew solid food, a common state in those days. In 1884 Edson was awarded United States Patent No. 306727 for the invention. His cooled product had "a consistency like that of butter, lard, or ointment", according to his patent application. He included the mixing of sugar into the paste to harden its consistency. The patent describes a process of milling roasted peanuts until the peanuts reached "a fluid or semi-fluid state"

B.  Why do you "mark" peanut butter cookies?  Potential reasons for the "marks" aka crosshatches…

Peanut butter cookie dough is denser than a lot of other cookie doughs. Putting the hash marks in the cookie dough balls actually flattens them for more even baking. Without being pressed, the cookies will not cook evenly.

C.  What country eats the most peanut butter?

According to Jon Krampner, author of "Creamy and Crunchy: An Informal History of Peanut Butter, the All-American Food," only Canada and the Netherlands consume more peanut butter per capita than the United States.
